Ravyn Otis
Ms. Ravyn Otis prides herself on
empowering young people to be their best and most authentic selves.
Ms. Otis has worked with children from ages
4 to 18 as a theater teacher, director, and drama coach. Ms. Otis believes that
the performing arts hold the key to confidence and provide tools for building
character.
Ms. Otis graduated from the University
of South Alabama with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. As a theatre major, Ms.
Otis was the 2010-2011 Alpha Psi Omega President and performed in an array of
productions, including Water Engine, Anything Goes, Seussical
the Musical, and Twelfth Night. Ms. Otis received best actress
awards for her performance as Olive in The Women of Lockerbie and
Cassius in Shakespeare’s Caesar. As a Teacher’s Assistant for an
Introduction to Theatre class in her senior year her interest in teaching
piqued.
Ms. Otis received the opportunity to
work at Sunnyside Theatre as a Drama Coach and learned to organize and execute
a lesson plan for students of all ages in a fun, high-energy environment.
Ms. Otis also worked for the Mobile Arts
Council as a Drama Teacher at two Boys & Girls Clubs. This extremely
rewarding experience opened her eyes to the need for theatrical exposure in the
community.
Ms. Otis continues to perform locally
and professionally as an actress gracing the stages of the Saenger, Mobile
Theater Guild, Joe Jefferson Playhouse, and Chickasaw Theater receiving many
accolades for her work.
Ms. Otis learned leadership skills as a
Stage Manager for theatrical productions and Project Manager for Harper
Technologies, LLC.
Ms. Otis now teaches Theatre and English
Language Arts at Mattie T. Blount High School where students have competed in
theater and poetry competitions. Ms. Otis encourages her students to take the
stage and perform before their peers, friends, and family, believing that it is
of the utmost importance to cultivate students’ voices on stage, in the
classroom, and in daily life.
